Female Artists that Changed Art

Throughout history there have been many female artists that have changed the art field. In my final project I have included a handful of artists which include Rosa Bonheur, Harriet Hosmer, Sarah Peale, and Artemisia Gentileschi. These artist have paved a way for newer artist to follow.Where Rosa Bonheur a well known artist for her painting which show realism, she would often wear mens clothing to get near these animals to get the meticulous detail she shows in her work. Her passion and attention to detail are amazing and I believe that these traits can only come from  a female artist like Bonheur.Another artist with such goals is Artemisia Gentileschi, who became one of the first to paint historical and religious events , such as Susanna and the Elders. However her paintings differ from other artists given that early on in life she was raped by her art instructor altering her view of art and incorporating this rape in such paintings as Susanna and the Elders. Sarah Peale was known as being the most  commercially successful artist in America where she was able to continue her career in art for a solid sixty years until her death. The final artist was a famous sculptor , she created many pieces from Italian marble and other stones. She was credited for opening up this field for other women to pursue a career in , in addition she dedicated herself to this medium when the physical demands of the process
